|My view last Friday!|
Since moving to London for my MA I've been lucky enough to go to a few West End shows and while I've stuck mostly to my favourites I did go to watch Heathers and let's just say I was more than surprised, I was blown away. This show has quickly risen to the top to become one of my favourites and have already had to go back again!
Firstly the story. It's so relatable in many ways. Not the killing your classmates part, obviously, but the intense desire to fit in, the run ins with bullies, the not knowing how you're going to survive through it all and just wishing your future to come right now. But the ending song itself is one of my favourite messages; don't wish it away; live.
The music is just so catchy. Okay, some of it is a little dark, but it still has this way about it that makes you want to sing along and dance. It's a cracking soundtrack and one I've not been able to stop listening to.
The actors are incredible. Carrie Hope Fletcher and Jamie Muscato of course deserve the biggest kudos, for the work they put in each and every night to what is quite a harrowing story. I can only imagine how exhausted they are after each show. But the other leads and the ensemble too, for they are what makes the show what it is. They are all so incredibly wonderful and talented and I can only see even brighter things in store for them all.
As the show is still running I won't say much more in case anyone hasn't seen it, and might do a longer review after it closes, but I will say if you love musicals, very character driven shows, and humour, go watch it. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. As for me, I'm hoping to squeeze a third show in somewhere.
As always feel free to leave a comment below or @ me on Twitter. It'll be so very!
